Applesauce Brownies II

half cup shortening
2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs, beaten
half cup applesauce
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup sifted all-motive flour
half of teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt
